Dylan Malloy

Coach

Dylan grew up in the small town of Butte America, in Southwest Montana, as a multi-sport athlete. After his collegiate soccer career came to an end, he turned to weight lifting, cross-training, and a bit of running. His running started small with local 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons. But his real passion for running emerged when he started to take his running to the mountains. Moving swiftly, efficiently, and far through the mountains is where he is most at peace. He has now run multiple ultra marathons a year, including the 100-mile distance.

After a significant knee injury requiring surgery from playing soccer, he wanted an ambitious goal to keep motivated with his rehab. He decided a goal would be to complete a full-distance Ironman race despite barely being able to run. He fell in love with the variety of disciplines (swim, bike, run, mind, nutrition) and nuanced training it takes to complete a triathlon. Again, starting with shorter distance races, and building up, he has now completed multiple Ironman distance triathlons.

As an RN in the hospital setting, currently in the ICU, he realizes how impactful movement can be to a person’s life. Unfortunately, the hospital is more of a reactive  “sick-care”, or caring for people after they incur a health incident, rather than a proactive preventative “healthcare”. He wants to become more involved in people’s health before they experience any health maladies. An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. We will all suffer setbacks eventually (sprains, strains, overuse injuries, colds, chronic health condition flare-ups, the effects of aging, etc.), but there is no avoiding them. But the better we can prepare, delay, minimize, and reduce the number of setbacks and/or the severity of setbacks, the more time we can spend living the life we want to the fullest.

He realizes that goals are important to have in life and they do not happen overnight. He has learned to enjoy the journey, both its ups and downs, it takes to work towards a goal. Whether the goal is to rehab in the hospital to be able to hold a loved one’s hand or to hold onto a moment at the end of an endurance race or on top of a mountain, each goal has a unique journey.

Every season has a reason, and Dylan likes to take advantage of them when he can. The gym, downhill skiing, snowboarding, and hockey take up most of the Winter months. Camping, hunting, and hiking fill the transitional seasons, and running, road cycling, gravel cycling, and a bit of mountain biking fill the Summer.
